My name is Márton Réti, today is 2022, October 15, and the main news in the media these days are: devastating wild-fires and never-ending heatwaves complemented by massive floods and hurricanes, growing inflation and the menacing threat of a recession, an aggressive Russia bringing a full-scale war to European soil, the potential calamity of billions in hunger and frozen as Ukrainian crop shipments are stalled and energy is unaffordable, and I could just go on and on and the doom list could forever continue.
Based on the stories in the news, on the topics we talk about in classrooms, on the prices we pay at the stores, etc., our planet could easily seem like a rotting place in a really shitty situation. And the worst is, there seems to be no solution at all because when one pandemic ends, a stupid conquest follows. No wonder that people fall prey to pessimism because often that might indeed seem like the only viable option. And then, something like the Dragon’s Alliance comes forth, and I’m telling you that seeing the world as a bad place will soon be a long-forgotten thought. Okay, it’s too soon to talk of such reforms, but on the long run, that’s indeed the goal.
People have been coming to you with the message that there is no solution to what is going on. That the world has certain characteristics and rules, and that the existence of problems is part of the default. Politicians just merely talk and seek greedy endeavors, while the real power in the world rests in the hands of selfish corporations. And in this world of invincible forces, the little guy can be nothing more than a passive bystander with no voice over the spinning of the world at all.
Well, as I have already stated earlier, bursting out with so much impatience to spoiler my dream, this kind of negativity is something we should just leave right here because the journey I would like to start with this website-thing is indeed pursued with the aim of kickstarting something promising and therefore rather great. To be crystal-clear from the very beginning, with devotion to transparency and with faith in you that you will take it seriously, the mission of the Dragon’s Alliance is to fix all mistakes which right now we feel like we just can’t beat.
Rule Number One: Pessimism is toxic, and in the future I have envisioned there’s neither room nor need for it. When people approach others with disappearing faith in humanity, they might sound sophisticated with high levels of critical thinking, but the truth is, they are just insanely offensive because they are saying in the face of all of those listening that they are shit. And the worst is when people actually believe this stupidity. When we, the billions, accept that we are indeed nothing and that we can’t fix a thing because the world is just a giant uncontrollable entity.
The first thing that has to change to build the future of our dreams is this mentality of ordinary people’s lives and efforts amounting to nothing. The Dragon’s Alliance’s message is the exact opposite, and it is based on the firm belief that we, the ordinary people, are the source of everything, and for change to take place, this message has to be embraced. The billions out there need to be treated with this strong belief in their capabilities, they need to see that the world is optimistic about their chances because it knows that once they are a cooperating collective, their unleashed power is insane. And in this future, there are no lonely dictators living in colossal palaces while ‘their’ impoverished people are toiling the fields, no Davos Elite deceptively talking of grand promises as they increase their profit margins, no “too big to fail” corporations while ordinary businesses are struggling, and no such an excuse defending bad things as “There is no alternative”. Instead, there are billions of individual lives marching together for positive change, defying an atmosphere of negativity and often tragic self-fulfilling prophecies.
The Dragon’s Alliance’s “It’s Our Turn” motto means that the responsibility rests on our shoulders to carry this positive change. But this is a demonstration of faith, a belief that we ordinary kids can actually influence how the world is spinning. It’s no longer another critical story about “How I have lost my faith in humanity”, but the exact opposite, an announcement of how achieving everything we want is an actual possibility. For that, we just need to see how we are not just grains of sand in a desert sea but individuals to be taken seriously with the capacity to shape the way of things.
This optimism in our potential is at the center of the Dragon’s Alliance’s message. The story itself is kickstarted because the need in today’s world has been detected for something positive, for a movement of faith which counters the doom and decay which today’s problem-focused culture is conveying. The world is a great place, and yes, every now and then bad things are happening, and from an individual perspective, taking action could indeed seem discouraging as it is hard to imagine it influencing anything. But the good news is that this disbelief is based on mere bullshit, something I’m going to dismantle and disprove as the Dragon’s Alliance grows into the world-changing movement it is meant to be.
So, if you like negativity, then cherish this poisonous feeling because things are going to change, and soon you will have no need for it. The Dragon’s Alliance is finally beginning, a new fellowship is forming, and it is not bound by pessimistic rationality obsessed with “This is the way”-s. The world is at our feet, and we all have the power to make our own mark on it. So, it’s time for our turn to be unleashed. In light of this, don’t just expect another lonely story of one genius like Elon Musk or Bill Gates doing something great, because what is about to start here is a journey of all of us as we go from meek obedience and disbelief to the realization that we, with our collective vision and will, are the key to lasting positive change.
I genuinely hope that we can all go home with this because there’s so much work to do along the way. Cheers.
